Bio

Before becoming a PMHNP, I was a nurse for 18 years with a wide variety of experience in psychiatric nursing, ER, OR, acute care, wound care, and case management to name a few. In 2019 I had a desire to become a Family Nurse Practitioner and went back to school to complete my BSN at Fort Hays State University. While I was completing my BSN my youngest son who was 10 at the time did a complete 180 in just 3 months’ time. He became depressed, anxious, and suicidal. I found that it was difficult to find a provider for my son in this area and we ended up driving over an hour out of town to get him the help that he needed. It was after that initial visit with the provider that I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was meant to become a PMHNP. That provider listened to not only me but to my son, she did lab work, genetic testing, multiple screenings, spent over an hour with us, and prescribed medications. I never want patients or parents to feel like they do not have access to a provider locally who will take the time to listen or who can empathize with them. I understand what it feels like as a parent to hear your child say they don’t want to live anymore. I understand the heartbreak. My son is now a thriving 14-year-old, and he is my ultimate “why”. I also have a deep understanding of other mental health disorders. My grandfather lived with Bipolar, and my father battled severe depression. If you are needing medication management services for mental health and want a provider who will take the time to really listen to understand you as a whole person, and utilizes an evidence-based care approach, then maybe I am the provider you have been looking for.
